FANTASTIC POEM BY ONE OF MY STUDENTS

I recently had a fantastic visit to Brookfields School, in Sutton. I asked pupils in Year 6 to write a poem on the theme of 'growing up'. I am honoured and excited to be able to share this fantastic, and deeply thought provoking piece by Lucy.

GROWING UP by Lucy

When I was five
we talked about fairies and unicorns
but now we talk about Brexit.

When I was eight
we talked about glitter and dolls
but now we talk about politics.

When I was eleven
we made slime all the time
but now we talk about climate change.

When we were twelve
we had out last sleepover
before we went to high school

but now we hate each other.

NEW POEM!

Well technically it's not a new poem, as I wrote it several years ago and published it on my blog in 2014. But it has just been recorded by the fantastic crew at Muddy Feet, and I'm proud to present it here on my blog:

DON'T WASH MY BLANKET!

So what if it stinks
like a block of old cheese?
So what if it’s snotty
and tattered and grey?
I like the odd blotches
of cold mushy peas!
Don’t wash my blanket today.

So what if it pongs
like a baby’s used nappy?
So what if its edges
are worn out and frayed?
Its pungent aroma
leaves me feeling happy!
Don’t wash my blanket today.

So what if it’s putrid?
So what if it’s yucky?
So what if it smells
like the cat’s litter tray?
So what if it’s mangled
and monstrously mucky?
Don’t wash my blanket, OK!
